As far as I know, the domestic turning parts, generally with alloy blade to rough, with ceramic to semi-fine and finishing.

The domestic general uses a square blade and a triangular blade.

Here are two videos

1. The listed company processes turning, the machine tool condition is good, the processing quantity is large

2. It’s a self-employed processing video

Carbide Insert used in a rough turning process, Ceramic inserts used in a  finish and semi-finish turning process.

Why use carbide insert when in a rough turning process?

Because the price of a ceramic blade is about 2-3 times that of a carbide insert.

Your cost saves much.

Why do precision and semi-precision cars use ceramic blades?

Because the workpiece needs finish, and there are parts of the workpiece that need to be drawn, so must go out of finish and precision.

For rough turning, in the case of efficiency; there is no need to use a ceramic insert.

Like gray cast iron, with ceramic insert,  speed, can reach 500-700 meters, carbide insert may not be such a line speed, but the life of two carbide inserts is undoubtedly worth a ceramic blade life.

To save costs, most of the carbide inserts used for rough turning are relatively large,
cylinder liner working in China, rough turning using the carbide inserts, with ceramic inserts do finishing and semi-finishing, this is in several cost accounting based on the decision.

If you have to be efficient and have to use ceramics grade, the cost will go up.

Whether it is to use rough alloy turning and then finish machining with ceramic blades, or to use ceramic knives to do rough machining, most customers have their processing habits;

if there is no technical guidance, it is likely to affect the production of your customers,

So if you want to buy the right inserts, first let your supplier know your product line, as well as production parameters.
